All About Theater!

all about theater

This class will involve students in discovery! We’ll travel through time and all over the globe to experience acting, singing and dance exercises in a new way while learning about ancient theater (when using masks had a different purpose than today!) Shakespeare, pantomime, improv, classical music, folk, ballet, jazz, 1950’s, disco and more! We’ll make it fun as we review some basics for reading music and understanding rhythm, and they’ll even know what Iambic pentameter is by the end of class - It’s all about theater!

Class Details

Class details may have been recently updated. Please review class information carefully before registering.

Questions? Email info@stagekidswa.org or call 509-663-6996 ext. 15

  • WHEN DO SPRING CLASSES OPEN? Registration for Spring classes will open on February 28th at 6pm. Some classes fill fast, so we recommend you mark your calendar!
  • WHERE DO I START? If your child is new to Stage Kids classes, they'll want to take our core class, Intro to Theater 1 (formerly Musical Theater 1). The next semester, they would enroll in Intro to Theater 2 (formerly Musical Theater 2)! Even if your child doesn't want to be on stage, this class ensures all Stage Kids have the same basic theater knowledge, skills, and vocabulary. These two core classes are prerequisites for most elective courses.
  • DO I NEED TO COMPLETE INTRO TO THEATER 1 & 2 BEFORE I CAN BE IN A SHOW?  No - kids can take a class WHILE enrolled in a core class. In other words, even if it’s your child's first time at Stage Kids, they could take Intro To Theater 1 AND be in the show at the same time! We offer Intro To Theater 1 & 2 on Mondays & Tuesdays so they can be taken the hour before show rehearsal time.

Alternative Instruction

Stage Kids partners with great local musical theater instructors to offer one-on-one training as well! Enrollment with approved instructors satisfies the class requirement for participation in a Spotlight Production. For recommendations and to request approval for your private instruction to satisfy your class requirement, please email stagekidswa@gmail.com.

“Class Act”
Showcase Information

Our Class Act is an "informance" for kids to share what they've learned in their classes! In most classes this takes place during the last 15 minutes of their final class. Parents will receive an email with the Class Act information.
